Dr Elizabeth Powell

Visiting Lecturer

Elizabeth first joined the Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology as a Research Associate from 2018-2021, concurrent with her post as the La Retraite Fellow in Theology and Spirituality at the Centre for Catholic Studies at Durham University. During this time, she published her first book, David Jones and the Craft of Theology: Becoming Beauty (Bloomsbury, 2020) and several essays on the art of David Jones for Commonweal Magazine.

She is delighted to be continuing with the Institute as a Visiting Lecturer. This next year she will also be teaching Theology and the Visual Arts as Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Notre Dame London Gateway. Her work with the Centre for Catholic Studies also continues as the organiser of their third Catholicism, Literature and the Arts conference for the summer of 2022. Meanwhile, work on her second book, Place, Liturgy and Kinship: The Ecotheological Vision of David Jones is underway.
