In the first part of the course, we will look critically at the ways in which Muslim feminists interpret authoritative sources (Qur’an, Sunna, legal traditions). Some case studies will be considered including the qur’anic/biblical figure of Eve, women’s leadership, and legal rulings concerning adultery. Secondly, we will discuss whether or not women bring a distinct contribution to inter-religious dialogue and how women might move from being objects to subjects of dialogue.
